MIA Explained – Where have I been? Cultural Jewelry took a break in 2016

Hello to you and you and you….  You may have wondered… ‘Hey, what’s going on with Olubunmi Creations?‘….  I am grateful for those of you who checked up on us… So…. here you go….

The year has been filled with quite a few things and all family related.  Don’t get me wrong, I still have created pieces and made custom culturally delicious jewelry.  I had some goals at the end of 2015 which I thought would be my highlight of the year…. however other goals crept up, and I decided to honor them instead.

This year I decided to focus on ‘Internal Growth’ – Yes, why not?  I read a lot of books and even more are waiting to be read or heard (thanks to Audible and Hoopla).  Since I drive a lot, I don’t want to waste all that time and I like having books read to me.

What all this reading did… was inspire me…. to grow a better me….  To work on the self…  Here are the books that I recommend for it.

  1.  You’re a Badass
  2.  Big Magic
  3. The gifts of Imperfection
  4. Nourished

Then I wanted to focus on parenting…. so I read these books (there are more but these are my favorites)…

  1.  The Five Love Languages for Children
  2. How to Talk So Kids Will Listen
  3. Surprised by Motherhood

Then, I decided that it’s time to really work on enhancing my marriage… (I mean… why the heck not? )

  1. The Five Love Languages
  2.  Nourished: A Search for Happiness

Then, as if on a self healing addiction… I went to these books.

  1.  Mastering Your Mean Girl
  2. A Return to Love Workshop
  3. Change Your Brain, Change Your Life

I then went to nitty-gritty of the how to’s and was hungry for more…. so… I read the following books…

  1.  Thrive
  2. The Miracle Morning
  3. The Blue Zones

I know…. that’s a lot of books, and there are more.  I’m not bragging, but I guess when it’s time to grow and learn… there is no stopping. You gotta jump on it while the iron’s hot!  This year I have to admit that jewelry took a back seat to life and family… and frankly, I don’t think that there is anything wrong with that.

Why am I mentioning this?  Because if you take the time to grow yourself from the inside out… then you will evoke change.  Change that will be visible, intense, and quite unique.  What it will do, it will also change your perspective about you, those around you, and your thoughts about, well everything.  I’ve decided that I will never be enlightened, but I will surely try to be a bit better today than I was yesterday.  That I believe is a better goal for me.

Why is this important?  Well, all of this work (which is in no way finished), has changed my visions of the jewelry that I make.  The feel that it has, and many other aspects.  The time to take a pause has made me want to delve into other types of energies when it comes to the jewelry that I make, the energy that it emmanates when it’s worn, and the overall vibe of my brand and each piece.  Definitely stay tuned, as I will be making some fun announcements in the coming weeks, and wanted to let you know… That Olubunmi Creations is here to make a difference and to instill cultural joy!
