Black History Month Celebrations

Monday night I was invited to showcase my handcrafted jewelry and hand knit works for a Personal branding in the age of diversity event from Black History Month, and I have to tell you, that it was an amazing couple of hours.  The event opened up with opening remarks, and the Black National Anthem, followed by Spoken word read by the writing’s author (kudos to Jerry Lowe) .  Following that there was a fantastic Key Note speaker Cheryl Wills!  She is an anchor woman for NY1 and a journalist.  She spoke of personal branding and her journey on what created her own personal brand.  Our personal brand can also damaged by what others label us, and what we even label ourselves.  She says that we should fight to keep our brand intact!  That is a very powerful statement!  Simple words but powerful message!  She spoke of her fantastic book Die Free in which she finds important materials from her ancestry.    To learn more about her book visit  It’s also available on Kindle format (here is the link.)

It was wonderful to hear her story, which isn’t too different from many of our stories.  Many of us are not as lucky to know of our own ancestry.  A lot of us are navigating through life without knowing where we came from.  We all have the power to change the course of our lives by knowing our worth, and really making it happen.   She is an engaging speaker which is relevant and makes you think of your own personal life, and how you can make it better.  Here is more information about Cheryl Wills Click here.

After the talk, there were closing remarks and then we all got to mingle.  It was wonderful to meet new people, and also to share with them handcrafted designs with an African flavor that resonates with the cultural vibe during Black History Month!  There was also another entrepreneur showcasing branded clothing from I AM CULTURE.  His main principle of I AM CULTURE is that “cultural differences should not separate us from each other, but rather cultural diversity brings a collective strength that can empower humanity”.  Click here for a link to their site.   What a fantastic thought provoking business.

It was an honor for me to meet new people, and reconnect with old friends.  Thank you to all those who purchased from us last night, your support of the growing entrepreneurs is greately appreciated and the heart of a growing community!
