The metamorphosis of a Lettering piece

A colleague is moving to a new role which means a new location. This saddens me for many reasons….

1. Because I’m selfish, I want to keep her in my pocket.

2. I will not see her smiling face on the daily…

3. She’s an amazing human being…

4. Many other reasons

Our job was going to give her a going away meeting… and I didn’t want to go with empty hands… so, what to do?

Make her something of course…. Let’s see how it happened…

I started with a blank piece of watercolor paper… and decided that ccolorful splats was the ticket…

Then added a colorful andshiny splotch lol

Then… the words…. in Japanese watercolor… with some brush lettering…

Then… I had to let it dry… (I don’t like to wait).

One color for the letters wasn’t enough.. Irridescent colors seemed right…. Then I gave it a showere of ink…

The concept needed a bit more….. ink. And I had to give it legs and a tail, one eye and a beak.

I felt that the eye was missing something. What was it? The little white in the eye.

I have to tell you… I was so scared. What if she didn’t like it? I was sooooo nervous. I gave it to her with a note in the back… and she graciously said… thank you and that it looked like a piece of art…

I hope that she enjoys it and that you liked watching the process of this creative piece….

Until next time.
